How does it work?

The search engine programs that crawl the sites (spiders) look at all the content on your website:  your site’s name, its URLs, the title of pages, the headings, the keywords used and the rest of your content, and ranks you in its search result according to how relevant your site is for a particular search. So one aspect of SEO is to optimise the content of your site to match it to the best with search engines requirements. Another aspect is to develop inbound links, where other web sites that are relevant to your site’s content, link to you. Search engines like that, and the more quality inbound links you have, the more positive votes you get from search engines, the better you get ranked.

Why do you need a SEO specialist?

If you have the time, nothing stops you from carrying on the promotion of your site. But you want all aspects done the right way, and avoid all the sand traps that are laid. You can get heavily penalized by search engines if you overdo it. What is SEM?

Search engine advertising (SEM), contrary to SEO, is an internet strategy that seeks to promote websites by increasing their visibility in search engines throught the use of paid placement and contextual advertising.

How does it work?

Search engines have dedicated spaces at the top and the right hand side of the search result page. This space is allocated to sponsored links or paid links, that are in fact commercial ads from merchant sites. Paid links appear when triggered by a specific paid keyword / expression, and rank ads according to the maximum set price for that paid keyword and the quality of the ad towards that keyword. Ads can also appear in specific sites that are related in context to the ad message. This strategy has the advantage of giving the the opportunity to be ranked in search engines front pages immediately, and appear in web sites that are relevant enough to display an ad.

Why do you need a SEM specialist?

You need someone that has had experience managing different types of campaigns, that knows how to use the interface ands its multiple tools. A SEA specialist will perform a market study of your target market (keyword research and generation, SEA competitor analysis, identification of traffic buyers and sellers, etc). He can save you a lot of time and unecessary costs, spare you the usal mistakes, and he will carefully monitor the evolution of your campaign  so that it continues to perform to the best. This basically would translate into more conversions at the lowest possible cost/conversion.
